Spring is in the Air

It's currently raining--hard, might I add. Not only is the rain pouring, but the wind is blowing, the thermometer keeps going down, and the heater is always on. I'd say I'm ready for Spring to be here, and the new collections for the aforementioned season aren't helping.

All of the collections were nice this year, as expected. Each had their usual characteristic flair, the designers holding their own in the world of couture. But some stood out more for me than others. I suppose it's all because of the style of certain collections that made me praise the designers even more. But to each her own, this post is highlighting two of my favorite Spring 2008 collections, which I considered to satisfy my appetite for fashion.
-------
Karen Walker
Her Ready-to-Wear Spring 2008 collection (above and right) was fabulous. I loved the pastel colors mixed with darker hues. The floral prints and and dainty blouses added girlish charm, while black tights and ankle boots added edge. Accessories consisted of leather belts and hats that resemled 1930s charm. Overall, the feminine feel was omnipresent, while the verile aspect made the collection unique and complete.

Luella
I've always been a fan of Luella Bartley's collections, and her Ready-to-Wear Spring 2008 (left) collection kept my devotion. Her famous mix of feminine chic and punk-rock edge was again present, this time mixed with the Geek Chic element. Floral printed blouses and skirts were paired with dark accessories, while plaids, bold patterns, and ruffles adorned other pieces. Large-framed glasses donned the faces of the models, which added just the right touch to a perfect collection.

Sex & The City

I'm an avid fan of the TV series. I own all of the seasons on DVD and know every episode only because I've watched each one about 100 times. Call me obsessed, but I think it's fabulous. The characters are wonderfully portrayed, each with a fantastic sense for fashion. I think it's wonderful how any woman can relate to any one of the characters, if not all of them. There's sophisticaed, neurotic Charlotte; Sexy-chic Samantha; Sarcastic, cynical Miranda; and eclectic, crazy Carrie. All of them have their own, unique styles, which offer great inspiration for viewers.

If you didn't already know, it has been announced that they are finally making a movie based on the series. Sex & the City: The Movie. I'm absolutely thrilled. Not only are all the original cast going to be in it, but the clothes are greater than ever. I'm not clear on all of the production details, but I do know that the release date is May 30, 2008. It can't come soon enough.

All of the images you see are stills from the movie. Aren't the clothes fabulous? I think yes.

Geepers Creepers, Where'd You Get Those Peepers?

Glasses. They seem to be all the rage from high fashion runways to hipster street style. This time, the frames are large, mirroring that of 1980's style. "Geek Chic" is what it's notoriously named, and it's never been better. Now those like me can let their inner nerd shine without feeling fashion-limited.

They were seen repeatedly in Marc Jacobs' Ready-to-Wear Spring 2008 collection (right), paired with the likes of seemingly nerd-like wears with modern and femminine flairs. Accompanied with big hair, yet another 1980's influence, it seems as if the fashion world is headed for a rather intellectual Spring. Luella (left) also held a Geek Chic vibe, as large frames were presented with floral print skirts, cardigans, plaids, and blazers.

Model Iekeliene Stange (left) is possibly the most famous for her innovative style of dressing, featuring large frames in a multitude of her outfits. Embodying Geek Chic at it's finest, she is considered a fashion icon to those who favor unique flair.

Notorious "Hipster" retailer American Apparel is known for their somewhat obscure wears, and they offer a great pair of costume glasses, with just the right amount nerd. But hey, there's an easy way to save money on this fabulous accessory. Dig through your mom's drawers and you're bound to find a pair from the 80's. Punch out the lenses, and you got the goods to call yourself a synthetic geek.

Bow-Wow-Wow

No, I don't mean the sound a dog makes. I mean the fabulous accessory that seems to be popping up everywhere lately from headbands to dresses. I don't know about you, but I've developed quite a liking for bows, and can't help but fight the urge to include at least one in all of my outfits.
They're just too cute to pass up, and can add a burst of color and personailty to an otherwise bland ensemble.

Marc Jacobs displayed a few on his dresses in his Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2008 collection (left) as well as in the form of head pieces in his Marc Jacobs Spring 2008 collection (right).

Apart from this, take a look at Leighton Meester's character, Blair Waldorf (below, left), on television's hit show Gossip Girl. Her red bow headband pops, and adds that chic flair that is undeniably Blair. The headband adds to her preppy, chic look, and has fans envying her sophisticated style.

Want to incorporate this cute accessory into your wardrobe? There are multitudinous opitions for any style. Borrow Blair's way and wear a headband, or take inspiration from Marc and wear a bow-bedecked dress or blouse. You can even do it DIY style: make your own out of ribbon, and apply anywhere.

My top bow picks: L'Autre Chose Shoes One Band Flat Sling Back Sandal, Mara Hoffman Bustier Cloud Dress, Development Cap Sleeve Blouse (all shown above)

Hello World!

I finally decided to create a blog; not just any blog, but one that incorporates my multitudinous passions: fashion, photography, music, movies, and all of the great things in between. Art, in general, I suppose. I'll be posting things that inspire me that will hopefully, in turn, inspire those who read what I post. Creativity, ingenuity, imagination and inspiration are all things I hope to portray and capture through my musings. I hope everyone enjoys.
